The biggest challenges facing the authorities and many parents of the country is the ever increasing numbers of drug abuse patients in this country. Though a lot of pre-emptive action is being taken, still the numbers seem to be going up every day. The menace of drug abuse is not restricted to just the family whose children are suffering from it, but on a larger platform it is a big problem for the society also. Apart from destroying families, drug abuse causes lot of stress and strain to the neighborhood, the county and to the country at large. It also causes economic loss to the family, society and the nation at large. Think of the colossal loss of man hours caused by drug abuse, especially among youngsters who are the most productive of all the age groups of people. According to some estimates around 3.5 million people in this country are have admitted to being sufferers of drug abuse. This indeed is a huge figure and if they are economically active and are generating income for society it would go a long way in taking the country forward.

Drug abuse has to be fought together by all sections of society because it is no longer a problem restricted to a few families. It has spread its poisonous fangs almost to every nook and corner of this country and hence it should be tackled seriously. Mere lip service and lecturing alone will not help. Parents should be educated more on this problem so that they can nip it in the bud.

Government’s New Economic Policy

One of the unique features of the New Economic Policy of the US Government is known as credit card debt relief policy. This concept is something which has never been heard of and is now under implementation by the US Government. Candidates Or Party

Over generations people and the electorate have been in the habit of electing people purely on party lines and in the process though there quite a few good candidates who got elected, a large number of not so good candidates also got elected purely based on the image and goodwill of the party. While people may argue that it is the party which drawn up the manifesto and make poll promises, candidates should not be given too much of an importance as long as they follow the party line and stand by the commitment made by the party to the people at large.

However, there is a different shade of opinion that it is the individual candidate who represents his constituency who is the most important link between the people and the party or government. Hence if the candidate is a capable person, without being corrupt or indulging in nepotism, then he or she would be able to establish a much more direct rapport with the people and serve his or her constituency that much better. There could be many problems which are unique to each region and constituency and hence having a straight jacket approach may not help. There needs to be adjustments and rethinking which may be away from the party line and for this the best person would be the local candidate.

Hence it would always be better to elect a candidate using a judicious mix of both party promises and manifesto and also by looking into the profile of the candidate and his commitment levels. Electing a candidate merely based on the party’s symbol could be unsuccessful because the person may not be unsuccessful in his efforts to manage the constituency.

Importance Of Good Governance

Gone or the days when politicians could take the electorate for granted. People have become more informed and are not taken in easily by glib talking politicians. Politicians who have ruled the roost previously by dividing the electorate and people on the basis of religion, colour and creed are being shown the door without any second thoughts. So politicians and political parties should wake up to this realization and performance and good governance should be the mantra if they are to survive and take politics as a serious alternate career. The population in any country is made up of mostly the struggling and toiling masses for whom survival and making ends meet is in itself a big job. Under such situations, they do not have the time nor the inclination to engage in activities which divide rather than uniting the nation.

The current financial meltdown of 2008 and the events that followed it have been traumatizing to say the least for large sections of the population and coming out this extremely difficult situation on their own, would be almost impossible. The government of the day has to rise to the occasion and not only promise good governance but also deliver on their promise. The issues confronting the nation are huge and vary from social issues like drug menace, homelessness and destitution, to more complicated issues like rising unemployment, falling living standards etc. These are the real issues which are of importance to any nation and not artificial divisions brought about in the name of religion, colour or creed. So governance is all about understanding the pulse of the electorate and this has to be kept in mind.

Government Educational Loans

Educational loans given by governments are usually for students and people who can not afford education on their own. For such people unless they get a helping hand from the government their educational dreams would come to a stop. But there are many ways for such students to complete higher studies if they are able to get educational loans from the government.

In fact there are various kinds of educational loans available today and they can be classified under two heads. They are federal sponsored educational loans and private sponsored educational loans. Federal educational loans are those loans which are given by the government directly and private educational loans are usually given by private financiers and banks. The beneficiaries of such educational loans could be undergraduate students, higher education students and even elderly persons and parents who wish to pursue their education on a higher platform and further more they could be classified according to the field which a student chooses. The difference between federal loans and private loans is basically the cost of the loans. The government loans or the federal loans are offered at much lower rates of interest since the interest component is paid by the government. One such common federal loan is known as Stafford Loans. Again under Stafford loans there could be two sub-divisions, i.e. subsidized Stafford loans and unsubsidized Stafford loans.

Subsidized Stafford loans are meant for those sections of society who are very poor and who cannot even afford to pay the interest. These loans do not carry any interest but to get such loans the candidates are required to give proof of low income and other details. On the other hand unsubsidized Stafford loans are those which do not required proof of income and any one is eligible for these loans irrespective of their state of income. What is crime exactly? In simple words crime can be defined as an act that violates the right of a person or a group of persons or their property and also at times endangers lives of people. However this is a very simple definition and the actual definition of crime could be quite huge and would be too long for this article. However crime is not only a violation of person’s rights; it could also cause lot of damage to the life of many people and also could endanger the safety of public in general. There are many ways in which examples of crime could be given. A simple example of crime could include the firing of a weapon inside the city limits; by doing so you are putting at risk the lives of many people who live within that range of that particular weapon you could by this act kill some people who could be innocent victim of such an action done by you.

Crime affects each one of us in some way or the other. Hence to prevent people from committing crime there are many laws which have been enacted by the authorities which makes crime a punishable offence. This is done to protect every man woman and child from the ill effects of crime. Why do people commit crime? This is also a very simple question and cannot be answered in one or two lines. There are many reasons why people resort to crime. If you look at criminals and their background you would find that most of the criminals get into acts of crime because of a very disturbed childhood where they have not been given the right kind of love, compassion and direction either from their parents or at school or from society at large. Such people become frustrated and at times they become mentally sick and cynical which leads them to becoming criminals. Instead of painting all criminals with the same brush we should try and understand the reason for their actions and try to remedy it.
