Politics refers to the method by which crowd tends to turn up with collective decisions. The application of the term is mostly made in context of science or art related to running governmental as well as affairs of the state. It also highlights behavior that exists in civil governments. The observation of politics has been done in different group interactions as being comprised of academic, corporate, as well as religious institutions. How important is it for your leader to be morally clean? The last few months have thrown up numerous instances where male politicians have cheated on their wives when they were in office. Of course, the combination of power and infidelity is as old as civilization itself. A person who is in a position of power will attract others. That attraction may be in the form of influence or may also be in the form of love or lust.

It takes a very strong individual to be aware of all these attractions and yet ignore them. Some even say that the tendency to have affairs is a sign of the gregarious and extrovert nature of the politician.

Most politicians are bothered about just one thing – how will my constituency react? If a significant percentage of the population in the constituency does not find the presence of two wives or husbands as an issue, the politician may not bother about the issue at all. There have been many instances where politicians have continued in an unhappy marriage simply because a divorce is unacceptable for their constituency.

In America, an individual has the right to be different as long as he or she delivers the goods. However, one thing that the American voter will not forgive is the sight of a lawmaker caught lying.

A person who admits to the affair will face a personal crisis. However, politician who lies on national television that he or she is innocent but admits to the mistake at a later date will quickly find his or her political constituency dwindling.

Political campaigning is a hard work and involves not a single tip to success. Political practice has changed dimension with changing times and asks for greater preparedness from a candidate running for elections. Strategists and consultants should be employed to chart out plans for effective use of resources and skills to present the best political campaign. It takes a lot of dedicated team work and determined spirit to crack through the political gallows. Mastering the election patterns is a skill. Therefore laying down political goals, plans and effective use of strategy is foremost in delivering success. Proper research work is also needed if one pursues his dream to assume the power seat.

Low Voter Turnout Rates in the U.S. Why Don’t More People Vote?

It’s a milestone that a great many young people look forward to. Turning 18 means: reaching the legal age of majority, becoming an adult in the eyes of the law, and being able to vote.

The ability to vote, and the result that comes from acting on that ability, is one of the basic tenets of democracy. It is also a right, and some would say an obligation that comes along with living in a westernized nation that values freedom of expression. The United States, as a democratic republic, could not function without its citizens making their voices heard by coming to the polls.

Why is it then that, so many people, and a good number of young people do not seem to understand how important it is to exercise their right to vote? It’s staggering to consider that, in general the U.S. has one of the lowest voter turnout ratios of any democratic nation. What are the reasons for this? Well, it appears that they are both many and complex. Reasons for not voting can include the following:

Not understanding the political system
Not being registered to vote in spite of being eligible
Not being interested in politics
Not being taught from an early age that voting is important
Not feeling as though one vote will make a difference.
Not being able to vote in spite of being eligible and registered.

All of these reasons for not showing up to the polls have, what are essentially easy solutions.

Some of these problems existed in other nations as well, and were rectified. The correction of these issues over time caused a distinct, and continuing uptick in voter turnout ratios, and interestingly an increase in the overall happiness of the population. The reasons behind that outcome are varied and complex, but perhaps the solution for the problem of low voter turnout in the U.S. can be found by looking for guidance on other shores.

Attracting Young People To The Polls 3 Ways To Improve Young Voter Turnout

One of the groups of people that tends to not be as openly represented at the polls, is the youngest group of this generation, many of whom are first time voters. Many times, it’s not that they don’t want to vote, it’s simply that they find the process of actually voting very daunting. There are a few ways that this can be fixed though.
1. Make it very clear how to find the polling place as well as what needs to be brought to vote.
Polling places are meant, for the most part to represent small sections of an area. This is done for the sake of relative ease when it comes to reporting the results to the required officials. This is not true in the case of early voting, but it needs to be made obvious where people’s polling place is, and that they need an official form of ID in order to be able to vote.
2. Educate them about the ballot via engaging methods
Many people of any age, do not realize how important of an act it is to vote, whether they vote early, via absentee ballot, or on election day. This is unfortunate, because if everyone assumes everyone else is voting, then the number of people who actually do vote is rather small in comparison. Young voters respond to engaging and fun or memorable calls to action. This can be applied to politics just as easily as it can to a fast food commercial.
3. Give young people or people with special circumstances a way to get done as quickly as possible.
Many people are forced to have to fit voting in between all of those things. With limited polling places, and limited hours at those places it can seem like a venture that is not worth the time. If there were some kind of quick vote line at polling places with various requirements, this issue might be lessened.

3 Ways To Get Young Voters To Engage In Political Activity More Readily

Young voters are among one of the most important and highly sought after demographics in politics. Unfortunately, many times, for a variety of reasons they do not come out to vote. The historic 2008 election saw some of the highest voter turnout amongst this group, but as time has passed since then those numbers have gone down significantly. The reasons why are varied, but it is a problem that can be fixed. Below are 3 ways in which it may be possible to re-engage the next generation of voters.

1. Have more polling places and/or a wider variety of polling options
Everyone who has voted before knows that your polling place, with few exceptions is determined by your state of residence and your address. Since polling places are limited young people with other responsibilities might not be available to vote. More flexible voting practices such as expanding early voting or better marketing of absentee ballots would help this.
2. Use technology to win the younger generation over
The generation today lives in a culture very different from that of their baby-boomer parents and depression era grandparents. They appreciate a multimedia rich approach, and so to engage them is going to require a potentially different spin on political campaigning with full integration of platforms like Youtube, the internet and social media platforms.
3. Find out what is important to that target audience, and appeal to whatever it is.
Debates are held every political season, but none seem to focus squarely on the issues important to the newest voters. This needs to be fixed, and the information to do so can be easily collected before events happen.
If these three issues are addressed and handled appropriately, then the number of youth voters would probably increase substantially. Currently, a great many of them feel unimportant within the context of the political process, and by making some slight changes as mentioned, that feeling would become less of an issue.

Using the Internet To Teach Kids About Politics: Resources That Can Broaden Horizons

Whether or not we want to admit it, or fully embrace the situation, the simple fact is that our children are growing up in a technologically advanced world much different from that which we remember from our own childhood. On the bad side of things, this can lead to little ones who are easily over-stimulated or who have a hard time using their own imagination.
On the good side of things, there are so many tools now at our disposal thanks to the internet which can be used, to teach important life lessons and other skills so essential to being a productive adult. One of those areas where parents should strive to inform their children is civics, or the political processes of the country in which they live.
Due to the fact that our society is so heavily proliferated with internet knowledge and electronics, there are a number of ways that these new tools can be used to accomplish just that. Below is a simple list of resources.

1. Google
This will either seem like a no-brainer, or maybe something that has never been done before, but this really is a culture nowadays where people turn to the search engines for answers. So much politically themed, and age/level appropriate content can be found with a few simple keystrokes.

2. Youtube
This obviously operates on a similar principle as above, however the content is all user generated, and video based. This is a great place to go as a parent to find multimedia rich, age appropriate content for kids wanting to learn about important issues. The White House has a Youtube channel, and the President sometimes responds to questions submitted.

3. Snag Films-
This is another video content site full of interesting and engaging documentaries on a wide variety of important topics ranging from health care to civil rights and beyond. There is a special learning section with additional content.

Do You (And Your Children) Know What It Means To Be Liberal Or Conservative? It’s Not As Easy To Figure As You Think

By definition, the two terms which have generally come to define the two party system that exists in the United States, liberal and conservative mean two very different things as defined below.

Liberal“ A person who generally favors the ability of the government to step in when needed, particularly to help those who need it most in hard times. A classic example of this is the policies set forth by the New Deal initiated by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Liberals in the U.S. tend to come from a number of backgrounds, and at times their stance on issues can be seen as over the top.

Conservative – A person who would prefer that government be as small as possible, on the basis of the idea that people should, for the most part be responsible for their own well being. Conservatives in the U.S. tend to be of a slightly different demographic than the liberals, and sometimes conservatism and religion go hand in hand. This is not always a good thing however.

The definition of each of these terms is also much more complex than covered above, which is also one of the problems witch such labels. Even in all of their intended simplicity, there are complexities which ride under the surface in the face of the ideals they represent. In real life, to be liberal or to be conservative is a much more involved matter, and each person will undoubtedly have a slightly different viewpoint.

This is also true for every single candidate within a political race. The sooner that parents realize this, and teach their children, the easier the process of politics will be on everyone.
Life is not about ideals, or even the pursuit of ideals so much as it is getting to the root of the issues at hand. This is only possible to accomplish when complexities are acknowledged.

How To Become An Informed Political Consumer “ 3 Ways You Can Feel Better About Your Decisions In The Polling Booth

For someone who’s never voted before, the prospect of having to make a decision that can influence a country for generations to come can be rather overwhelming. The same can be said for those who have voted previously, simply because with every election cycle comes a new wave of political candidates and propaganda meant to sway people’s decisions.
This propaganda may, or may not be true, but getting to the heart of the matter and choosing a candidate based on the issues close to a person’s heart is important. This can be accomplished by using a few methods to educate oneself before an election.

1. Read, And Listen
In the time preceding an election, there are often a wide variety of resources available to potential voters, due to the fact that all candidates are basically trying to win support. Reading political blogs, listening to podcasts, policy or issue debates, National Public Radio or anything like that is a good way to gain both general and specific information about issues and the candidates that support those issues. Use the resources available, and be open minded.
2. Attend A Political Event or Rally
In an effort to win votes, with future potential constituents, many politicians travel around on particular circuits, in areas where they want to make the most impact. They may come and give a speech, meet with potential supporters, hold town hall style meetings to address the issues or any combination of the above. These events are a great way to learn, as well as to potentially get up close and personal with a political figure.
3. Ask For Advice
Do not be afraid to ask for others opinions. Whether it’s a teacher, pastor, parent or someone else, they can be a valued source of input in terms of political positions. Just know that it is OK to not agree with the opinion they give.

Should Voting Be Made Mandatory? The Short Answer Is Yes

Low voter turnout is one of the biggest problems when it comes to any sort of democratic election. This has been on the decline in all western democratized nations for some time, but it is particularly frustrating in a place like the U.S. where there are so many small things that could be done to fix the issue.

One of the biggest reasons that people cite for not going to vote on election day, is the fact that they have other responsibilities, and cannot find time to go to their polling place. Similarly, many do not understand or trust the absentee ballot process and early voting, is still relatively new, and may not be understood either.

What can be done about this? Well, in some nations, voting is mandatory, and because it is, people who are eligible to vote must be registered, employers must give time off of work to go vote, and polling places must be managed in such a way that the process is as fast and streamlined as possible. If people cannot make it to the polling place for certain reasons they must be given an alternative method of casting their ballot, and if they do not vote at all without a valid exception, they can face fines or other punishments.

Voting is not mandatory in the United States, and this means that many people who are eligible to vote are not registered, and still more people who are eligible and registered simply do not go to the polls for whatever reason, be it confusion, frustration, apathy or simply the inability to show up.

If this were changed in this country over time, then it would follow that a distinct uptick in voter turnout would be obvious and perhaps if voting were looked at as a requirement a renewed interest in politics would also become apparent.
